Text Encrypt
AES-256-GCM with the key stretched from your passphrase by PBKDF2. Everything happens in this page, so the passphrase and the text never leave your machine.
What are you doing
A long phrase of ordinary words beats a short jumble.
Your text
Locked text
What this does and does not do
- Cipher
- AES-256-GCM, which both hides the text and detects tampering
- Key
- PBKDF2-SHA256 over your passphrase, 310,000 rounds, fresh 16 byte salt each time
- Nonce
- a fresh random 12 bytes per message, never reused
- Format
- Base64 of salt, then nonce, then ciphertext and tag
Lose the passphrase and the text is gone. There is no recovery, by design. A weak passphrase is the weak point here, not the cipher.
Good for a note in a document or a password sent through a channel you do not trust. Not a replacement for a password manager or full disk encryption.
